According to the amendment and supplementing the Law on excise tax, special consumption tax on cigarettes will increase from 65% to 75% from the date of 1-7-2015 until the end of 2017, and will increase further 10% from days 1-1 -2018. The Ministry of Finance estimates that the revenue from this tax for tobacco products will contribute to the state budget in 2016 about 2930 billion, 2017: 3,300 billion, 2018: 7.700 billion.
The Finance Ministry said the percentage of current smokers in our country is quite high with approximately 15 million people. Especially the millions of women and children do not smoke sucked secondhand smoke in the workplace, in the home. Tobacco is the cause directly cause 40,000 deaths in 2008, predicted that this number will reach 50,000 in 2023. This is one of the reasons for the Finance Ministry proposes to increase taxes on tobacco.
